LATROBE, Pa. - After a reschedule and a relocation it was finally time for the #3 Cougars to start their postseason run with a match up against the #6 Allegheny Gators. The Cougars entered this game looking to return to the PAC Semifinals for the second year in a row. Despite a rocky start, the Cougars punched their ticket to the next round with an 18-8 win.
The Gators came out and attacked early, taking the lead first. The Cougars answered back, tying the game at 1. That was all the good news for the Cougars in the first quarter as they trailed 4-1 after 15 minutes. The second quarter is where the game turned, The Cougars outscored the Gators 8-2 in the second quarter alone. That gave the Cougars a 9-6 lead at halftime. The Cougars continued their dominance from the second quarter through the remainder of the game, outsourcing the Gators 4-1 in the third quarter and 5-1 in the fourth as they cruised to an 18-8 win.
The Cougars were led by
Tessa Hueber who had seven points, five goals and two assists.
Sam Beall-Dennell and
Bailey Donofrio also had seven points, Beall-Dennell had two goals and five assists and Donofrio had four goals and three assists.
Erin Goodwin added five points, one goal and four assists and
Sarah Holt had four goals.
Natalie Ondo and
Elizabeth Gallup each added a goal.
Avery Redd had a team high four ground balls and Hueber led the way with three caused turnovers.
Meghan Cuza-Berry made nine saves and had a 52.9% save rate.
The Cougars advance to the PAC Semi Finals on Thursday May 1st when they will travel to Washington, Pa. for a 7 PM match up with W&J.
