Women's Lacrosse Ends Regular Season with Statement Win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - On Saturday the Cougars (9-6, 7-2 PAC) took on the Westminster Titans (11-5, 6-3 PAC) in the final game of the regular season. The two teams entered the final day of the regular season tied for the third spot in the PAC playoffs. The winner of this game would be the three seed in the conference playoffs and the loser would be the fourth. The Cougars came out and got up early and held on to win 17-12.

The Cougars fell behind early as the Titans took a 1-0 lead 2 ½ minutes into the first quarter. The Cougars answered with a pair of goals, taking the lead 2-1 just over four minutes into the game. The Cougars never relinquished their lead after that. The Cougars took a three goal lead after the first quarter and held the same three goal lead at the end of the second and third quarters as the teams had identical five and three goal quarters. That paved the way for the Cougars to pull away in the fourth quarter with four goals. Despite a rally by the Titans, they were only able to get within one in the fourth quarter as the Cougars won 17-12.

The Cougars were led by Erin Goodwin who had five goals and two assists for a game high seven points. Tessa Hueber followed closely behind with three goals and three assists for six points on the day. Bailey Donofrio scored four goals, the second most of any player in the game. Kaya Miller scored three goals, including back-to-back goals after the Titans cut the lead to one in the fourth quarter. Sam Beall-Dennell added two goals and one assist and Izzy Davanti had three assists. Avery Redd caused two turnovers to lead the team and also had two ground balls which was the most by the Cougars. The Cougars completed 13 of 15 clear attempts in the game.

The Cougars will return to action on Tuesday April 29th when they host the first round of the PAC playoffs at 7 PM. Their opponent is still unknown.
