RInker Breaks Goal Record in Dominant Cougars Victory

BETHANY, W.V. - On Saturday, the Cougars (12-5, 7-1 PAC) wrapped up their regular season with a trip to Bethany to face off with the Bison (7-10, 2-6 PAC). The Cougars, having previously wrapped up the second seed in the conference tournament, did not let that deter them from playing a complete game. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead and held it all the way through as they won comfortably 26-5.

The Cougars wasted no time getting on the board first, scoring just over a minute into the game. The scoring continued through the first quarter as the Cougars scored nine goals in the first 15 minutes. Although they never matched that quarter total again, the outcome of the game was never in doubt. The Cougars scored six goals in both of the following quarters, and even though the Bison scored four goals in the second quarter the game was out of reach. The teams headed into the final quarter with the Cougars leading 21-4 where the Cougars added five more goals and the Bison got a late goal to make the final score 26-5.

Ethan Rinker wasted no time making history for the Cougars in this game scoring both of the Cougars. Those two goals tied and broke the Cougars all time goals. With his third goal of the game, Rinker tied the career points record. Rinker now has the most points (146) and goals (110) in team history.

The Cougars were led offensively by Owen Millar who had 4 goals and 3 assists for a team high 7 points. Ethan Rinker ended the day with 3 goals and Adam Rinker added 2 goals and 1 assist as the brothers completed a week where they had 15 goals and 4 assists for the Cougars across two games. Paul Freyre rounded out the trio of Cougars who scored three goals. Ben Keller recorded his first multi goal game with 2 goals and he assisted on 1. JR DuBose led the Cougars in ground balls as he grabbed 11. Jackson Adkins led the Cougars with 3 caused turnovers. Zen Smith and Mario Pusateri split time in goal for the Cougars combining for 9 saves and a 64.3% save rate.

The Cougars have locked up the second seed in the upcoming PAC playoffs and will enter the postseason after the best regular season in program history. They start their postseason run hosting the Saint Vincent Bearcats on Wednesday April 30th at 7 PM.
