Baseball Drops Two Against Hawks

HAMBURG, NY – Chatham Baseball (12-16, 4-6 PAC) fell in both of their nonconference contests on Saturday afternoon at Hilbert (12-13, 2-4 AMCC) by scores of 5-3 and 9-3.

The Cougars struck first in game one when Nolan Boehm's sacrifice fly in the first inning brought home Devin Fluhmann. In the fourth, walks to Jake Bredl and Fluhmann scored Tyler Cote and Cooper Baxter to give Chatham a 3-0 advantage. The Hawks responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, then four runs in the sixth gave Hilbert the 2-run victory.

Fluhmann had an RBI, scored a run, and walked twice in game one. Bredl was 1-2 with an RBI and a walk, and Angelo DeLeonardis went 3-4 at the plate. On the mound, Gianni Cantini struck out four in two innings of work, allowing no runs on one hit. Kole Mayle also tossed a scoreless inning for the Cougars.

The Hawks got on the board early in game two, plating 3 runs in the first inning. Chatham cut the deficit to 3-2 when Kayden Leck's double scored Dominic Obiecunis and Eddie Rueda in the fourth inning. The Cougars' offense stalled after that as it did in game one, and Hilbert pushed across 4 runs in the fifth and 2 in the sixth. Jake Bredl crossed the plate on a passed ball in the seventh inning to close the scoring of the six-run ballgame.

Leck finished game two 1-2 with 2 RBIs. Obiecunis went 1-2 with a walk and scored a run.

Chatham will travel to Westminster on Tuesday to take on the Titans in a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader.
