Baseball Walks Off Concordia

WINTER HAVEN, Fl. – Chatham Baseball (4-4, 0-0 PAC) used a three-run home run from Peter Tadic along with a walk-off single from Devin Fluhmann to defeat Concordia-Chicago (3-5, 0-0 NACC) 9-8 on Tuesday.

The Cougars began the game in a 3-0 hole after Concordia hit home runs in both the second and third innings. Chatham got 2 runs back in the bottom of the third on a Nolan Boehm RBI groundout and a Kayden Leck sacrifice fly. The fourth inning produced 7 total runs, as Concordia increased their lead to 6-2 in the top half of the inning before Chatham knotted the score in the bottom half. Angelo DeLeonardis singled home Ty Blackburn to make the score 6-3. Peter Tadic then stepped up to the plate with two runners on base and sent a ball into orbit over the left field fence to complete the Chatham comeback.

Concordia hit their third home run of the game in the seventh inning, a solo shot to give them a 7-6 advantage. Jake Bredl tied the game for Chatham in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Boehm. Chatham then grabbed their first lead of the game in the eighth when Caleb Jones' pinch-hit single through the right side scored Eddie Rueda, seemingly putting the game to rest. Concordia had other plans, as their two-out fly ball to right field hit the top of the fence and bounced over to keep the game alive. In the bottom of the ninth, Bredl legged out an infield single, then Blackburn walked. Devin Fluhmann proceeded to step up to the plate and lace a single to right field that brought in Bredl for Chatham's third consecutive victory and second walk-off win in three days.

Cooper Baxter pitched the last six innings of the game and earned the win for Chatham. The junior gave up 2 earned runs on 5 hits with 8 strikeouts. Tadic was 2-5 at the plate with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Rueda went 3-4 with a walk and scored 3 runs, Bredl was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored, and Blackburn went 1-2 with a run and three walks.

The Cougars are back in action on Friday for a doubleheader against Wentworth in Auburndale, Fl. with a 9:30 a.m. first pitch.
