Cougars Beat Muskies Amid Offensive Onslaught

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - On Thursday, the Cougars (1-3) played their home opener against the Muskingum Muskies (4-3). The Cougars offense overpowered the Muskies and won running away 21-7.

The Cougars took the lead early in the first quarter and despite the Muskies tying the game at one, the Cougars never trailed. The Cougars then scored five unanswered goals and the game never got closer than four. The Cougars led 7-2 after the first quarter. The Cougars outscored the Muskies 4-2 in what felt like a quiet second quarter by comparison, taking an 11-4 lead into halftime. In the second half the offensive onslaught kept raining as the Cougars at one point scored 12 unanswered goals across the second, third and fourth quarters. Holding an 18-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter, the Cougars continued to find opportunities to score and wound up winning the game by a final score of 21-7.

Bailey Donofrio tied a career high five goals, also notching her 100th career point. Izzy Davanti scored four goals and added two assists to propel the Cougars offense. A trio of Cougars all scored three goals and had one assist; Tessa Hueber, Kaya Miller and Erin Goodwin. Defensively, Miller and Goodwin led the way with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. The Cougars converted on eight of ten clear attempts and controlled 15 of 25 draws.

The Cougars will be back in action when they host Marietta at home on March 19 at 7 PM.
