PITTSBURGH, Pa. - On Wednesday, the Cougars (2-3) took on the Marietta Pioneers (4-5) as the Cougars near the start of conference play. The Cougars took a three goal lead early and never looked back winning 17-8.
The Cougars opened the game by scoring the first goal of the game. The Pioneers would tie the game at one but that would be all the closer they got as the Cougars scored the next four goals and never led by less than two goals after that. The Cougars led by three at the end of the first two quarters; 5-2 and 8-5. In the third quarter, the Cougars opened the floodgates outscoring the Pioneers 6-2 in the third quarter alone. The Cougars then outscored the Pioneers 5-1 in the fourth quarter and won by a final score of 17-8.
The Cougars were led by
Tessa Hueber who had four goals, tying her career high, and
Sam Beall-Dennell and
Kaya Miller who had three goals each.
Erin Goodwin and
Kendall Foster had three assists each to lead the team.
Avery Redd and
Sarah Holt both had two caused turnovers leading the team and Redd led the way with five ground balls.
Syba Ismail had four ground balls as well. Meghan Cruza-Berry made five saves for the Cougars.
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday March 22nd when they start conference play at Bethany at 6:30 PM in Bethany, W.V.
