Pittsburgh, Pa. - On Saturday, the Cougars (1-1) took on the Muskingum Muskies (0-2) at UPMC Graham Field. After a slow start in the first half the Cougars came out on top of the Muskies 13-3.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead five-and-a-half minutes into the game when the Muskies scored their first goal of the game with a little over six minutes remaining in the first quarter. That would be all the scoring that either team could muster in the quarter.Â
In the second quarter, the Cougars once again broke through for two man advantage goals giving them a 4-1 lead as the teams headed into the locker room at halftime.Â
In the third quarter, neither team could find the back of the net for the first 13 minutes. The Cougars would then score two goals in twenty seconds to take a 6-1 lead. The Muskies would answer with a goal of their own with one minute remaining in the quarter.Â
In the fourth quarter, the Cougars scored less than ten seconds into the quarter and added another goal two minutes later. The Cougars then went on to score seven total goals in the third period alone giving them the 13-3 win.
The Cougars were led by
Jacob Lubawy,
Broden Zumbano,
Thomas Whitaker and
Ethan Rinker who all scored two goals.
Thomas Curtin and
Ryan Buchanan led the team with five ground balls each and Lubawy recorded three caused turnovers to lead the team.
Brett Zaruba made 11 saves in net to help the Cougars win this one.
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday February 22nd when they travel to Oberlin, Ohio to face off with Oberlin starting at 1 PM.
