BETHANY, W.V. – Chatham Men's Basketball (20-3, 17-1) earned its 12th straight win with an 82-74 victory over the Bethany Bison (7-15, 2-15) at the Hummel Field House on Wednesday. With the win, the Cougars set their longest win streak in program history.
Simon Boyer led the game with 23 points on 9-17 shooting with four three-pointers, four rebounds, four assists.
Diaun Pinkett contributed 16 points with six rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Drew Vizenor netted 12 points, all coming off three-pointers as the sophomore went 4-7 from deep.
Zavea Green was a perfect 4-4 from the field, finishing with nine points, three assist and two rebounds.
Bethany started out with a 7-3 lead before Chatham got a three from
Easton Fulmer and a layup from Green to take their first lead of the day. The two sides were tied at 15 and 17 before the Cougars broke away with an 8-0 run which ended with back-to-back threes from Vizenor. However, the Bison would fight back with a run of their own to pull within two with 4:57 left in the first half. A three-pointer from
Noah Adams and a bucket from Green helped Chatham to a 37-32 halftime lead.
Boyer and
Hunter Verling combined for 9 of the Cougars' first 11 points of the second half, then Pinkett scored four straight for Chatham as they found themselves ahead 52-48 with 12:26 left. The Cougars separated themselves with a 9-0 late in the half, which resulted in an 18-point lead with under three minutes left. Bethany would bring it back to single digits, but never made it close down the stretch.
The Cougars shot 46.9% (30-64) from the field in the win and hit 14 threes. Bethany outrebounded Chatham 41-34, but the hosts shot just 22.6% (7-31) from the beyond the arc.
Chatham Men's Basketball will hit the road again on Saturday to take on the Geneva Golden Tornadoes.
