Brockport, NY - On Saturday, the Cougars (7-1-0, 7-1-0) faced off against the Golden Eagles (3-6-0, 2-3-0) in the latter half of their conference series. Chatham lost the game 2-1, ending their program record win streak at seven wins.
In the first period, the Golden Eagles drew first blood. They broke a tie, scoring an even-strength goal three minutes into the game. The Cougars find their footing, battling back with notable chances to even the score. Chatham would head into the first intermission down 1-0.
The second period saw the offensive output slow. The Cougars could not solve the Golden Eagles, despite high danger opportunities. Up to the task was the Cougars' goaltender Cameron Kuntar. He stopped all 13 shots he saw in this frame, keeping Chatham within striking distance.
Entering the third period, the Cougars were trailing all game and looking for a spark. Brockport would double its lead halfway through the frame, after scoring a power-play goal. Chatham's offense gained its traction, finally solving the Golden Eagles' goaltender with three minutes left in the game. Michael Roby continued his hot streak, scoring a short-handed unassisted goal, his 8th of the season. The Cougars would pull their goalie with one and a half minutes left in the game, but could not solve the Golden Eagles' defense. The buzzer sounded with Chatham losing 2-1.
Other notable standouts included Camden Smith, who led the team with 4 blocks tonight. Kuntar continued his strong play, finishing with a .929 SV%.
The Cougars will return Friday, December 5th, following a short Thanksgiving break. They face off against Albertus Magnus at the Alpha Ice Complex at 4 pm.
