PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham Women's Basketball (4-1, 0-0 PAC) used a big second quarter to defeat Wittenberg (2-2, 0-0 NCAC) 57-38 at the Athletic and Fitness Center on Saturday afternoon.

Hannah Chenault continued her impressive shooting performance for Friday night by knocking down two three-point baskets and a couple of free throws in the first quarter. After the Tigers hit a couple of three-pointers themselves, the Cougars found themselves trailing 16-15 after the opening frame. The second quarter is where Chatham found separation, as senior
Julia Calvin drained two shots from beyond the arc early, then another three-point basket from Chenault capped a 15-3 Cougar run.

Chatham won the third quarter despite scoring only 9 points, as tough defense held Wittenberg to just three field goals. Senior
Alyssa Laukus earned two free throws with a second left in the frame and knocked down both to put the Cougars ahead 49-32 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Chatham limited the Tigers to just two field goals, keeping them without a three-pointer for the entire second half. 3 points from Chenault and Laukus highlighted the Cougars' offense in the final quarter, in which Chatham only allowed 6 points.

Madison Nereu posted a double-double for the Cougars, netting 17 points on 6-11 shooting along with 10 rebounds and 3 assists. Chenault was 4-11 from beyond the arc and scored 17 points. Laukus recorded 9 points, 5 rebounds, a game-high 3 blocks, 5 boards and 2 steals for Chatham. Calvin had a career-high 6 steals and earned her 9 points by shooting 3-4 from three-point range. Senior
Maria Barela dished out a game-high 7 assists.

The Cougars shot 36% from the field in the contest, holding Wittenberg to just 21% from the floor. Chatham allowed 13 Tiger field goals, making this the third time the Cougars have allowed 13 or fewer field goals in a game since 2023.
