Cougars Fall in Home Opener

Pittsburgh, PA - The Cougars started the season with a 3-0 loss to Lebanon Valley in game one of the two-game series.

Lebanon Valley led at the first intermission after a back-and-forth opening frame. The Flying Dutchmen opened the scoring with 9:59 left on the clock. Chatham could only muster five shots on goal through the first frame.

Chatham came out swinging to start the period with numerous scoring opportunities and chances to get back into the game. The frame was marked by chippy play as both teams traded minor penalties. The period ended with the score remaining 1-0 in favor of Lebanon Valley. The flying Dutchmen extended the lead to 2-0 three and a half minutes into the final frame. The game was put on ice by Lebanon Valley as they scored their third goal of the game on the power play at 9:32 in the third period.

Goaltender Samantha Brophy corralled 34 saves, good for a .919 save percentage on the day. First year, Cade Wiley and senior Chelsea Clark led the way for the Cougars with four shots apiece. The Cougars had a game-high 16 blocks as a team, with junior Ella Stearns-Sheffer and sophomore Emery Gelinas leading the way individually, each with 4 total blocks.

The Cougars look to bounce back as they travel tomorrow, Saturday, November 1st, for game two against the Flying Dutchmen in Hershey, PA. Puck Drop is scheduled for 2 pm.
