PITTSBURGH, PA - It was a good night for the Chatham men's soccer (3-7-4, 1-2-3 PAC) team as they were able to earn their first conference win by defeating the Washington & Jefferson (W&J) Presidents (6-5-2, 2-3-1 PAC) 3-0.
It has been a rough season for the Cougars as they had tied the longest non-winning streak in program history (9). That was before tonight!
It only took sophomore
Christopher Colonna 15 minutes to find the back of the net for the Cougars. He score the game winning goal, and his first of the season to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. His goal would be assisted by fellow sophomore
Bennett Haas. The Cougars would remain quit the rest of the first half while also holding off the Presidents.
It would only take three minutes into the second half before Colonna added another goal to the board for the Cougars, this time being assisted by sophomore
Izeyah Romo. Junior
Xavier Johnston couldn't let Colonna have all the fun tonight, so he added the Cougars third and final goal with just three minutes left in the game. His fellow junior
Justin Knox would assist his goal.
The Cougars would tally a total of seven shots on goal: three from Colonna, two from Haas, and one each from Romo and Knox. Their back line would be even more vital as they limited the Presidents to only five shots on goal, allowing junior goalkeeper
Justin Teufel to earn the shut out.
The Cougars look to continue their win streak next Wednesday, October 15th, when they hit the road to take on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets.
