WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Chatham Women's Basketball (13-5, 11-3) rolled to an 84-59 victory over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (10-9, 5-9) on Wednesday evening at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Ashlie Louden notched a game-high 24 points with six rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.
Charjae Brock was one rebound away from a double-double, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Madison Nereu was a perfect 6-6 from the foul line on her way to 12 points and eight rebounds.
Alyssa Laukus netted 11 points with five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks, while
Leah Harkenrider tallied seven points and collected a game-high five steals.
The Cougars took control from the very start, opening the game on an 11-0 run that featured three-pointers from Louden and
Hannah Chenault. The Yellow Jackets responded by hitting two three-pointers, with a Chatham free throw in between, to make it 12-6, but the Cougars got a steal and a fastbreak layup from Brock on back-to-back possessions to grow the lead back to double-digits. The two sides traded triples in the final minute of the first quarter, ending the period at 21-9 in favor of Chatham.
The Cougar defense continued to smother in the second quarter, collecting six steals and holding the hosts to 0-4 from beyond the arc. Louden scored four of the team's first six points of the quarter to help Chatham go up by 15 points, but a 6-0 run from Waynesburg brought it back to single digits. Louden would hit another three and find Brock on the fastbreak for a layup as the Cougars found their way to a 33-20 halftime lead.
Waynesburg scored the first five points of the third quarter, but Chatham answered back with an extended 21-7 run that had seven points from Louden and four from Nereu. Laukus and Louden each hit a pair of free throws in the final two minutes of the quarter to put the Cougars up by 22 points. The Yellow Jackets scored 22 points in the fourth quarter, but were unable to cut into the lead at all as the Cougars kept the pressure on.
Chatham shot 40.6% (28-69) from the field, which is their ninth time hitting the 40% mark this season. The Cougars won the rebound battle 46-40 and forced 22 Yellow Jacket turnovers, which led to 27 points off turnovers.
Chatham Women's Basketball will travel to Grove City on Saturday to take on the Wolverines at 1 p.m.
