Brockport, N.Y. - On Friday, the Cougars (4-9-1) traveled to take on the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles (2-9-2). The Cougars came away with a resounding 5-0 shutout victory.
Brendan Merriman got the scoring started for the Cougars scoring the first two goals of the game. His first was assisted by
Jacob Ammar and
Dylan Young. His second goal of the period was assisted by
Kadsen Johnson and
Nick Cyprian. Then with a minute-and-a-half left in the first period the Cougars would score a third opening period goal. This time it was
Kyle Contessa assisted by
Bekk McClaine and
Michael Roby. That made the score 3-0 in favor of the Cougars as the teams went to the locker rooms.
In the second period the score remained 3-0 with goalkeeper
Geno Pichora saving 17 shots on goal in the period. The Cougars put seven shots on goal in the period but were unable to find the back of the net.
In the third period the Cougars would extend their lead when
Nick Cyprian scored on the assists from
Tyler Samodral and
Kadsen Johnson. He would be followed by
Kyle Contessa scoring an unassisted empty net goal for his second goal of the game. That would be the extent of the scoring as the Cougars won 5-0.
Geno Pichora converted on all 42 save opportunities, notching his first career shutout. Offensively the Cougars had four players record two points;
Brendan Merriman (two goals),
Kyle Contessa (two goals),
Nick Cyprian (one goal and one assist) and
Kadsen Johnson (two assists).
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday January 18th for the final game of the weekend against SUNY Brockport with a 4 PM puck drop in Brockport, N.Y.
