Cougars Split Matches Against Penn State Altoona, Elizabethtown

ALTOONA, Pa. - Chatham Women's Volleyball started Saturday's tri-match with a dominating victory over hosts Penn State Altoona (25-21, 25-18, 25-13), before dropping a hard-fought second match to Elizabethtown (22-25, 25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 15-5).

Alyssa Leskovac, Becca Gesner and Zoie Bateman each recorded 7 kills for the Cougars in a match that saw them hold Penn State Altoona to a .035 hitting percentage. Ava Plunkard, Zoie Bateman and Annika Solfronk bolstered the service game for Chatham, logging 3 aces each. The Nittany Lions (4-6) had just 2 aces as a team. Defensively, Paige Watson tied a career high with 5 blocks in the win.

Chatham's second match was a five set thriller, in which the Cougars would have benefited from not having a 45-minute turnaround from the previous match. Elizabethtown's Gracie Britten led her team in kills and blocks with 13 and 4, respectively. Savannah Lesley recorded 4 service aces to help the Blue Jays (6-3) overcome a loss in the first set of match and notch the neutral site victory. Chatham's Zoie Bateman and Sierra Ricci put in their best efforts in the defeat, with Bateman achieving a career high 17 kills and Ricci breaking her career high by 5 digs with 25. 33 errors plagued the Cougars (2-6) in the end as Elizabethtown finished with 25 errors.

Chatham's next match will take place in Pittsburgh on Thursday at Carlow's St. Joseph Athletic & Fitness Center.
