Cougars Dominate Bison 18-1

PITTSBURGH - Chatham Women's Lacrosse (5-4, 2-0) defeated the Bethany Bison (2-8, 0-3) by the score of 18-1 on Saturday at UPMC Graham Field. The Cougars are now 5-0 all-time against the Bison.

Senior Felicia Hutter led the game with six points on four goals and two assists. Hutter ranks sixth in the PAC with 3.11 goals per game. Junior Sam Beall-Dennell added five points on three goals and two assists with four draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. With 157 ground balls, Beall-Dennell now holds the program's all-time record, previously held by Anna Prendergast (155). Graduate student Bailey Donofrio put up a hat trick and collected two ground balls. Freshman Natalie Ondo tallied two goals, including the first of her collegiate career. First year Izzy Davanti also netted two goals, while senior Stephanie Walter and sophomore Dani MacConnell each contributed a goal and two assists.

The Cougars took the lead at 11:29 of the first quarter on a goal from Donofrio and never looked back. Freshman Kaya Miller and Donofrio then scored 1:20 apart to give Chatham a 3-0 lead. The Cougars scored twice more in the first period and held the Bison off the board to make it 5-0.

The second quarter began with a goal from Hutter just eight seconds in, and Chatham increased its lead to seven with a score from Davanti. Bethany finally got on the board at 9:26 of the second quarter, but that's all their offense would muster, as it was Purple and Grey the rest of the way. Goals from Beall-Dennell, Walter and Hutter made it 10-1 going into the halftime break.

Beall-Dennell opened the second half with a free-position goal, then Hutter and Donfrio each found the net in a 1:32 span. Hutter scored again before the end of the period, which gave Chatham a 14-1 lead. MacConnell tallied all three of her points in the fourth quarter, and Ondo scored her second of the day with 2:10 left.

Shots were 38-8 in favor of the Cougars. Freshman Meghan Cuza-Berry and junior Sam Barrett combined for three saves in goal. Draw controls were a narrow 12-11 in favor of Chatham, and the Cougars were 3-7 on free-position attempts.

Chatham Women's Lacrosse will return to action on the road Wednesday when they face W&J.
