Cougars Fall to Presidents

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Chatham Women's Lacrosse (5-5, 2-1) suffered a 20-13 defeat against the W&J Presidents (5-6, 4-0) on Wednesday night at Alexandre Stadium.

Senior Felicia Hutter led the Cougars with four points on three goals and an assist, while graduate student Bailey Donofrio recorded a hat trick of her own. Senior Stephanie Walter picked up four points on two goals and two assists and collected two ground balls. Junior Sam Beall-Dennell had a goal with a pair of assists and added eight draw controls with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior Erin Goodwin netted two goals and had an assist with three draw controls. Senior Avery Redd tallied six ground balls and caused three turnovers, while freshman Sarah Holt also had three caused turnovers.

The Cougars struck first on a goal from Walter, but the Presidents responded with two goals to take the lead. The two teams traded goals to make it 4-3 in favor of W&J before the Presidents broke out and took a three-goal lead. Donofrio ended the quarter with a score on an assist from Walter to cut the lead to two.

Freshman Kaya Miller opened the scoring in the second quarter to bring Chatham within one, but W&J went on another three-goal run to go up 9-5. However, the Cougars clawed back with a three-goal swing of their own, with scores from Donofrio, Hutter and Goodwin, to cut it back to one.

Hutter then tied the game 39 seconds into the third quarter, but the Presidents scored twice in the next two minutes and the Cougars were unable to pull level for the remainder of the game. W&J ended the third quarter with a 14-11 lead and scored six times in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as eight.

Shots were 40-27 with the advantage to the Presidents. Chatham was 3-7 on free-position attempts, while W&J was 6-9. The Presidents also held the lead on draws 21-16.

Women's Lacrosse returns Saturday at 1 p.m. to take on the Grove City Wolverines at home.
