Beall-Dennell Breaks Program's Career Points Record, Cougars Top Barons

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - On Saturday, Chatham Women's Lacrosse (7-7, 4-3) earned a 17-7 road win over the Franciscan Barons (2-10, 2-5) at Trinity Health System Field.

With a goal in the opening minute of the second quarter, junior Sam Beall-Dennell became the program's all-time points leader, surpassing Brielle Rapsas' mark of 122 points from 2019-2022.

Beall-Dennell also broke the program's career record for caused turnovers in the game, a mark she tied last game. She is now Chatham's all-time leader in points, caused turnovers, draw controls and ground balls and is just three goals away from tying the career goal mark.

Beall-Dennell finished the day with six goals and an assist for seven points. Graduate student Bailey Donofrio had a hat trick, while senior Felicia Hutter and junior Erin Goodwin each netted two goals. Hutter also caused three turnovers. Senior Stephanie Walter totaled three points on a goal and two assists. First year Meghan Cuza-Berry made 13 saves in 45 minutes of play.

Franciscan scored the first two goals of the contest, but Chatham clawed back with goals from Beall-Dennell, Donofrio and Hutter to take the lead before the end of the first quarter.

Beall-Dennell scored five times in the second quarter, including twice in the opening minute, to kickstart the Cougar offense. After Donofrio and freshman Sarah Holt added goals, Chatham found themselves leading 11-5 after the first half.

Goodwin found the back of the net 57 seconds into the third quarter to increase the Cougar lead to 12-5. The Barons netted a goal two minutes later before Hutter scored on a man-up opportunity. In the fourth quarter, Chatham got four goals from four different scorers to put the game out of reach.

Shots were almost even at 31-29 Chatham. The Cougars were 3-3 on free-position shots, while the Barons were 1-10.

Chatham Women's Lacrosse is back on Wednesday for Senior Night when they take on the Thiel Tomcats at UPMC Graham Field.
