MUNHALL, Pa. - Bethany College traveled up from West Virginia to take on the Chatham Cougars. The Cougars were defeated in both contests, losing game one 3-1 and game two 6-2.
In game one, Bethany struck first in the opening frame. After a leadoff single and stolen base to start the game, Bison centerfielder Destiny Goodnight was able to come around later in the inning to give Bethany a 1-0 lead early on. Bethany scored another in the fifth, but the Cougars finally got in the scoring column in the bottom half. Sophomore
Irene Martin stayed hot with a leadoff single and eventually came around to score after a Sophomore
Kayleen Garcia single to center. The Bison got an insurance run in the final inning and Chatham was unable to score in the bottom half as it made the final 3-1.
Bison starter Josie Wise kept the Cougar hitters off-balanced all game. Wise gave up only one run and collected 12 strikeouts.

Victoria Murren went five innings, gave up five hits, two runs (one earned), and two strikeouts.
The Cougars had four hits in game one. Two from
Irene Martin, who continues to impress in her first year as a Chatham Cougar.
In game two, after a scoreless first inning on both sides, Bethany put up a four spot in the second to give the Bison an early lead. The Bison scored one run in the fifth and sixth to extend their lead to 6-0. Game two was the takeover by Bison starter Katelyn Ziems. Ziems was one out away from a perfect game until she walked
Kayleen Garcia on four pitches with two outs in the seventh. After walking Garcia, Martin blasted a double to left center and
Victoria Murren followed her up with two run double. Chatham was defeated 6-2 in game two.
Bison starter Ziems went the distance, gave up two hits, two runs, a walk and only one strikeout. Ziems pitched efficiently and kept the Cougars off balance.

Softball now moves to 7-23 (3-11) overall. After an off day tomorrow, they will travel to Steubenville, OH for a double header vs the Franciscan Barons. Games are expected to start at 1 & 3 PM.
