DAVENPORT, Fl - Baseball wrapped up their spring break trip this morning. The Cougars were defeated by the Calvin Knights by the score of 8-2.
Things got off to a slow start in the game as it was dead even 0-0 thru five innings. The Knights struck first in the top of the sixth with two runs thanks to an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. The Cougars responded in the bottom half with a run when Senior
Frankie DeLuca singled and eventually came around to score on a Senior
Jake Bredl groundout to shortstop. In the seventh, the Knights scraped another run across and then Chatham once again answered. Sophomore
Caleb Jones led off the inning with a triple and Freshman
Eli Kelley hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-2. Calvin scored two in the eighth and three runs in the ninth to give them a comfortable cushion. The Cougars were unable to score in the last two innings to make the final 8-2 in favor of the Calvin Knights.Â
Sophomore
Nick Martin got the start for the Cougars. Martin had the best outing of his collegiate career as he went six strong innings and gave up seven hits, two runs, three walks, and three strikeouts. Sophomore
Peter Tadic was 2-4 and six different Cougars collected a hit in the game.Â
The Cougars end their spring break trip with a record of 4-4, and 4-6 overall.
They will host the Penn St Fayette Lions on Wednesday, March 13th at West Field in Munhall, PA.
