MUNHALL, Pa. - The Cougars hosted their first home game of the 2024 season. They defeated the visiting Penn St Fayette Nittany Lions by the score of 14-3.
The Cougars wasted no time in the first inning as Sophomore
Peter Tadic singled and Sophomore
Caleb Jones hit a homerun down the right field line. In the second, Senior
Dylan Vogel led off with a walk and then Sophomore
Tommy Schubert hit a fly ball to right field that dropped in for a double. Later in that inning, Sophomore
Angelo DeLeonardis hit a two-run double down the right field line to extend the Cougar lead to 6-0 after two innings. In the fourth, the Cougars had three straight singles to start the inning from Senior
Jake Bredl,
Peter Tadic, and
Caleb Jones. Freshman
Eli Kelley drew a walk to bring in a run, and Junior
Tyler Cote followed Kelley up with a hit by pitch.
Dylan Vogel hit a sacrifice fly as he returns from injury. Schubert recorded one of his three hits with a single to center to make the score 10-0. Fayette recorded their three runs between the sixth and seventh inning but the Cougars responded in both innings to make the score 14-3. Neither team pushed runs across during the last two innings.
Schubert was 3-4 with two RBI's, a triple, double, and a run scored. Vogel, Tadic, Jones, Bredl and DeLeonardis recorded at least two hits in the contest. Jones hit his second homerun of the year.
With the win, the Cougars move to 5-6 on the season. Chatham will travel to Ohio to take on Bluffton University at a neutral site in Ohio on Saturday, March 16. Those games are slated for 1 & 4 PM.Â
