CLERMONT, Fl. - Softball had two early matchups Thursday morning featuring the Alvernia Golden Wolves and the Mount Union Purple Raiders. They were downed in game one by the score of 8-0 and 10-0 in game two. Both games were five inning games. 

In game one, the Golden Eagles took an early lead and never looked back. Through four innings, Alvernia led the Cougars 8-0. They scored runs in each of the first four innings as the Cougar bats were silent. The Cougars held Alvernia to zero runs in the final inning but were not able to cash in any runs themselves as the game was called due to mercy rule. 

The Cougars tallied three hits in game one, two coming from Sophomore Shianne Walker, who was 2-2. Sophomore Chelsea Stabile had the other lone hit for Chatham. 

In game two, the Cougars went up against a very tough Purple Raider team. Just like game one, Mount Union jumped out to an early lead, scoring 10 runs through the first three innings. Chatham was unable to push a run across in the last two innings to escape the mercy rule. Purple Raider starter Chloe Bird threw three perfect innings and had four strikeouts. 

Chatham had two hits, coming from Junior Isabelle Griswold and Sophomore Victoria Murren.  

Softball will wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow evening when they take on ranked Hiram College and Gordon College at 4 and 6:15 PM. 

The Cougars fall to 2-6 on the season.
