Men's Volleyball Defeated at Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Cougars lost in four sets to the Phoenix (4-8,0-0 CSAC) at the Nelson Gymnasium.

Freshman Benjamin Shelestak tied for a match-high 14 kills and had the second-most digs on the team with 12. First-year Tim McCabe followed with 13 kills and a .344 hitting percentage.

Senior Coulter Chaffee set a new season high with 27 assists, while freshman Alex Moncello had 12.

Chatham took a late 16-15 advantage in the first set, but Wilson responded with a 5-0 run. After trailing 23-17, a kill by Maximilian Barrett sparked a 5-0 Cougars run to make the score 23-22. The Phoenix closed the set with the final two points.

In set two, the Cougars used a 7-0 run to power their way to an early four-point advantage (7-3). Chatham maintained the lead up until midway through the set when Wilson used its own 7-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. Both teams traded blows the rest of the way as the largest lead was two on either side. An attacking error gave the Phoenix a 24-23 lead, but freshman Kyle Penn's third ace of the night capitalized a 3-0 run for the set (26-24).

Chatham's only lead in set three was 3-2. After that, the Cougars trailed the rest of the way as the Phoenix closed the set with a 25-21 advantage.

In the final set, the Cougars tied the score off a McCabe kill at 11. However, Wilson jumped ahead by five on a scoring run (16-11). Chatham pulled within one point multiple times down the stretch, but with the score at 23-24 in favor of Wilson, the Phoenix won the match 25-23.

Men's Volleyball's next match will be on March 21 against Mount Aloysius.
