CLERMONT, FL. - March 3, 2024 - Softball took on New England College Sunday afternoon and came out victorious by the score of 6-5.
In the game, the Cougars got the scoring started in the opening frame when Freshman
Cloe Lopez doubled to left, scoring Martin and Peticca. Freshman
Mia Peticca grounded out to shortstop in the sixth that scored Grad
Kyley Fijalkowski making the score 3-1. The Pilgrims then scored two in the seventh, forcing extra innings. In the ninth inning, the Cougars broke the tie thanks to Junior
Isabelle Griswold who singled to right field and brought in Lopez thanks to an error. The Cougars took advantage of another error in the inning as they took the lead 6-3. The Pilgrims did not go down without a fight as they scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but failed to score as the game ended 6-5 in favor of the Cougars.
Sophomore
Victoria Murren shined on the mound for the Cougars going all nine innings. Murren allowed nine hits, five runs (one earned), and a career high 12 strikeouts in the win. The Cougars tallied 13 hits in the contest. Griswold collected three hits, Grad

Irene Martin chipped in two hits apiece in the contest.Â
Softball moves to 2-1 on the season and will look to continue the momentum in a make-up game tomorrow vs Otterbein in Clermont, Florida.
