SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Chatham Women's Lacrosse (1-2) took a 16-11 loss against Bridgewater State (2-2) in their first game of the Puerto Rico Clasico at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium on Thursday.
Junior
Sam Beall-Dennell led the Cougars with five points on four goals and an assist. Senior
Felicia Hutter and junior
Erin Goodwin each scored two goals, while graduate student
Bailey Donofrio had a goal and an assist. Senior
Stephanie Walter tallied two assists on the day.
The Cougars got out to an early 3-1 lead in the first with two goals from Beall-Dennell and one from Hutter and increased the lead to 4-1 when first year
Natalie Ondo scored her first career goal. However, the Bears scored four goals in the final 4:10 of the first quarter to take a 5-4 lead.
Bridgewater State then scored two of the three goals in a low-scoring second quarter to go into halftime up 7-5. The Bears tallied the first five goals of the second half to lead 12-5 before two more Beall-Dennell goals brought the game to 13-7. The Cougars made a comeback push in the fourth with goals from Goodwin, Donofrio and Hutter cutting the game to 14-11, but Chatham could not pull closer and Bridgewater State netted the final two scores of the contest.
Shots were 33-31 in favor of the Bears and draws were 16-14 with the advantage to Bridgewater State.
Women's Lacrosse will look to rebound in their second game of the Puerto Rico Clasico on Sunday at 3 p.m. (EST) against RIT.
