LEXINGTON, Ky. - Chatham Women's Basketball (24-4, 18-2) fell in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament to the Transylvania Pioneers (28-0, 18-0) by the score of 61-40 at the Clive M. Beck Center on Friday night. The Cougars ended the season with the most overall wins and PAC wins in program history, as well as their first PAC title and first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Junior
Charjae Brock led the Cougars with 18 points on 7-11 shooting. Sophomore
Hannah Chenault added eight points with two three-pointers and grabbed four rebounds. Junior
Aurielle Brunner had five points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 32 minutes.
The Pioneers opened the game on a 9-0 run before the Cougars got on the board with a three from Chenault. Transy then closed the quarter with a 9-2 run to lead 18-5.
The Cougars began the second quarter on an extended 11-4 run, with seven points from Brock and four from Louden, which helped cut the lead to 25-18, then a three from Chenault made it a four-point game. Just four points were scored in the final three minutes of the half and the Pioneers went into the break leading 28-22.
Chatham cut the lead to 31-26 with baskets from Brock and junior
Zelimar Rodriguez, but the Pioneers scored the last 13 points of the quarter to take over the game.
Transy extended that run to 17 straight points before a floater from Brock ended the Chatham drought. The teams traded scores over the final 7:18 on the way to the Pioneer victory.
Transy outrebounded Chatham 50-26, including 23 offensive rebounds for the Pioneers which led to 19 second chance points. The Cougars won the turnover battle 15-14.
This season, Chatham Women's Basketball set new program records for overall wins (24), conference wins (18), longest win streak (14), points (2,119), field goals made (795), steals (468) and blocks (98).
