Women's Lacrosse Defeated at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Chatham Women's Lacrosse (1-1) suffered its first loss of the 2024 season with a 20-9 defeat at Mount Union (2-0) on Wednesday at Kehres Stadium.

Senior Felicia Hutter doubled her season total with four goals to lead the Cougars. Hutter, the reigning PAC Offensive Player of the Week, added four draw controls. Junior Sam Beall-Dennell tallied three points on two goals and an assist and contributed a team-high eight draw controls with two caused turnovers and two ground balls. First year Kaya Miller netted two goals, including the first of her career, while graduate Bailey Donofrio had a goal and an assist. Junior Josie Barton recorded three draw controls and three ground balls while freshman Sarah Holt caused two turnovers.

The Purple Raiders scored the first three goals of the game to take control before Hutter got the Cougars on the board with a free-position goal. Mount Union would respond with the final four goals of the quarter to lead 7-1.

Chatham struck first in the second quarter on a free-position goal from Miller, but Mount Union scored just under four minutes later to reclaim its six-goal lead. The teams combined for five more scores in the final 3:54 of the half, with the Cougar goals coming from Miller and Beall-Dennell, as the Purple Raiders took an 11-4 lead into halftime.

Hutter and Beall-Dennell each scored to open the second half and cut the lead to 11-6 with 11:13 left. After almost nine minutes with no goals, the Purple Raiders scored two and the Cougars scored one in the last 2:23 of the quarter, with Donofrio providing the marker for Chatham.

Hutter scored twice in the fourth but Mount Union netted seven scores to run away with the lead.

Shots were 35-19 in favor of the Purple Raiders. The Cougars committed 21 turnovers and were just 9-16 on clears.

Women's Lacrosse will return to action on March 7 when they face off with Bridgewater State in Puerto Rico over spring break.
