Cougars Rout Barons on New Year's Eve

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Chatham Women's Basketball (6-4, 4-2) cruised to a 96-48 win over the Franciscan Barons (1-10, 1-6) on Tuesday at the Finnegan Fieldhouse. The win marked Chatham's third time scoring 90+ points this season.

Ashlie Louden scored 25 points on 9-13 shooting and 7-9 shooting from three-point range. Charjae Brock scored 13 points with nine assists, four rebounds and three steals. Leah Harkenrider netted 10 points and racked up a career-high seven steals with four rebounds and three assists. Hannah Chenault scored 10 points on 3-8 shooting with three rebounds. Alyssa Laukus led the Cougars with seven rebounds to go along with seven points and two blocks. Madison Nereu and Julia Calvin each scored eight points, with five and four rebounds respectively.

The Cougars began the game on a 9-2 run which featured five points from Louden. After a Baron basket made it 9-4, Louden knocked down another three-pointer for her eighth point in the opening four minutes. Franciscan cut Chatham 12-4 lead down to 15-14 with a 10-3 run over four minutes, but a turnround jumper from Brock made it 17-14 before the end of the first quarter.

The Cougars won the second quarter 28-4 to blow the game wide open. Eight different Cougars scored in the frame, led by Harkenrider with eight points and Laukus with five. Conversely, only two players scored for the Barons in the entire first half. The third quarter was more of the same, with Chatham winning the period 34-9 on their way to a 79-27 lead. Louden netted 14 points in the frame, including four more three-pointers, while Brock had five assists. The Cougars reached their largest lead of the day (53 points) on a three from Chenault in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.

Chatham shot 42.9% (36-84) from the field and 38.9% (14-36) from beyond the arc. The Cougars outrebounded the Barons 54-43 and collected 20 steals to match their season best.

Chatham Women's Basketball returns to action Saturday as they host the Bethany Bison at noon.
