PITTSBURGH - Chatham Men's Basketball opened the 2024-25 campaign with a 67-51 win over Carlow on Saturday at the Donahue Pavilion.
Newcomer
Drew Vizenor led the game in scoring with 13 points, including 3-8 shooting from three.
Simon Boyer and
Diaun Pinkett tallied nine points apiece, while
Luca Robinson added seven.
Lovenson Xavier had six points and led the team with seven rebounds to go along with three steals in his Chatham debut.
After starting the first eight minutes with a 13-8 lead, the Cougars used eight straight points from Vizenor to go up 21-12 and take control. Scores from Robinson, Xavier and
Easton Fulmer would grow the Chatham lead to 16 with 2:32 left in the first half. Two more points from Xavier at the foul line gave the Cougars a 38-20 lead heading into the break. Chatham took a 20-point lead on a basket from
Zavea Green and pushed it to 25 with 6:42 left.
The Cougars shot 43.3% (26-60) from the field and 28% (7-25) from deep. They held the Celtics to 36.2% (17-47) from the field and 11.8% (2-17) from long range. Chatham had 36 points in the paint to Carlow's 20 and each team committed 21 turnovers.
The Cougars will head to Moon Township tomorrow for an exhibition against Division I opponent Robert Morris at 2 p.m.
