PITTSBURGH - Chatham Men's Basketball fell by the score of 79-51 against Division I opponent Robert Morris on Sunday at the UPMC Events Center. The game does not count towards the Cougars' win-loss record, so they remain 1-0 on the season.
Luca Robinson and
Blaine Gartley each netted 10 points to lead the Cougars. Gartley added two blocks and two steals, while Robinson led the team with seven rebounds.
Diaun Pinkett had eight points with five boards and three steals.
Lovenson Xavier and
Easton Fulmer scored seven and six points respectively coming off the bench.
Fulmer got the scoring started for the Cougars with a runner from the baseline to make it 3-2. Following a pair of Colonial free throws, Robinson converted on an and-one opportunity to tie the game at 5. Robert Morris then used a 9-0 run to take a 14-5 lead with 14:54 left before Pinkett and Fulmer hit contested layups to cut it to 14-9.
An 11-2 Robert Morris run made it 25-11 at 9:26 before Xavier buried Chatham's first three pointer of the day. Just over two scoreless minutes between the two teams came to an end with two Robert Morris free throws, and the Colonials picked up two more at the charity stripe on the following possession before Pinkett scored in the post and Xavier completed a three-point play to make it 31-19 with 5:00 left in the half.
Gartley scored his first basket of the day by cutting into the paint with a wide open layup off the feed from Pinkett. Gartley connected on another layup in the final minute of the half, and a Robinson put back lay in made it 38-25 heading into halftime.
Robert Morris scored nine quick points in the first two minutes of the second half which turned into a 13-0 swing before a driving layup from Pinkett. At 15:25, Robinson pulled down another offensive rebound and scored on a strong put back to make it 54-29. The Cougars put together a 7-2 run, with buckets from Fulmer and
Drew Vizenor as well as a second-chance triple from Gartley, to make it62-37 with 11:09 to play.
Chatham engineered a quick 5-0 run on a jumper from Pinkett and a three from Robinson to cut it to 65-42 at 8:12. Robert Morris closed the game on a 14-9 run over the final 7:17, with Chatham getting three-pointers from
Noah Adams and
Seth Sager.
The Cougars shot 30% (21-70) from the field, while the Colonials shot 50% (28-56). Chatham forced 16 Robert Morris turnovers and committed just 11 of their own.
Chatham Men's Basketball returns to action Wednesday evening for their home opener against Carnegie Mellon.
