Pittsburgh, Pa. - On Saturday the Cougars played game one of a split venue weekend set. The Cougars (1-6-1) hosted the #8 Trine Thunder (8-0-1) and fell by a final score of 2-1.
In the first period, the Cougars took an early lead when
Dylan Young scored his first career goal assisted by
Devin Nabozny and
Kadsen Johnson. That gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead over the number eight team in the nation which would be the score at the end of the first period. The Cougars were outpaced in shots on goal 10-6 in the first period.
In the second period neither team could find the back of the net despite the Thunder taking 17 shots on goal to the Cougars two. After the second period the Cougars still clung to the same 1-0 lead.
In the third period the Thunder offense finally broke through scoring a pair of goals in just over a minute and a half. That put the Thunder up 2-1 despite trailing for most of the game. That would be the final score.
Cameron Kuntar was in goal for the Cougars and made 34 saves on 36 attempts for a 94.4% save rate. Offensively the Cougars were led by
Dylan Young who scored one goal. The Cougars will be back in action on Sunday November 1st when the Cougars and Thunder play the second game of the weekend set in Angola, Ind. with a 2 PM puck drop.
