Pittsburgh, Pa. - On Friday the Cougars (0-5-1) took on the Manhattanville Valiants (1-4) for game one of the weekend set. Both teams came into this game looking for their first conference win of the season. The Cougars fell by a score of 2-0.
It was the Valiants coming out attacking first, scoring back-to-back goals in the first period. The goals were less than 15 seconds apart a little over six minutes into the game. That would be all the action for the period however. The Valiants would outpace the Cougars in shots on goal 9-6 in the first period.
In the second period the Valiants continued to be the aggressor taking 17 shots on goal compared to the Cougars six.
Samantha Brophy was able to stop all of the shots on goal in the second period to keep the game 2-0 going into the third period.
In the third period the Valiants threw another 24 shots at Brophy who stopped all of them and the Cougar offense could only manage one shot on goal in the third period and it was saved. The final score was 2-0 in favor of the Valiants.
Brophy ended the night with 48 saves and a 98% save rate. Defensively
Samantha Barrett led the way with seven blocks. The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday at 3 PM for game two of the weekend set against Manhattanville at Hunt Armory.
