WAYNESBURG, Pa. - January 6, 2024 - Chatham Women's Basketball (12-2, 8-1) won their 11th consecutive game with a 58-49 victory over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (2-11, 1-8) at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse on Saturday. After a slow start in the opening 20 minutes, the Cougars won the third quarter 21-3 on their way to their 10th double-digit victory of the season.
Sophomore forward
Alyssa Laukus led the way with 16 points on 7-9 shooting to match her season high in scoring. Laukus added five rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks in 30 minutes of action. Junior guard
Zelimar Rodriguez netted nine points and added a season-high seven rebounds to lead the team. Junior guards

Aurielle Brunner combined for 18 points and five assists, while Brunner added six steals.
In the opening frame, Waynesburg opened with a 4-0 lead before a 10-2 Chatham run gave the Cougars an early 10-6 lead. However, the Yellow Jackets would end the quarter on an 11-5 run to lead by two after 10 minutes. Laukus had eight points in the first quarter on 4-4 shooting. In the second quarter, the Cougars offense struggled to get things going, with a three-point play from Laukus providing the only scoring of the first five minutes. Waynesburg used an 11-2 run to go into the halftime break with an eight-point lead. In the first half, the two teams were a combined 1-23 from three-point range and committed 25 total turnovers.
Chatham came alive in the third quarter with an extended 21-0 run that included seven steals to take a double-digit lead. After going 0-11 from beyond the arc in the first half, the Cougars were 2-5 from deep in the third quarter and held the Yellow Jackets to 1-15 from the field. A quick Waynesburg three-pointer to start the third quarter cut the Chatham lead to just seven, but the Cougar defense forced turnovers on six of the next nine possessions to control the game down the stretch.
Chatham shot 34.3% (23-67) from the floor and 14.3% (3-21) from long range, which marked their second-lowest three-point percentage of the year, but held Waynesburg to 31.0% (18-58) from the field and 49 points, which matches their season low.
Women's Basketball returns home Wednesday to face off against the Saint Vincent Bearcats in their second battle of the season.
