PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 10, 2024 - Chatham Women's Basketball (13-2, 9-1) extended its win streak to 12 games with a 69-58 victory over the Saint Vincent Bearcats (6-9, 4-6) at the Athletics and Fitness Center on Wednesday. After a back-and-forth first half, the Cougars used a 12-4 run midway through the third quarter to pull away.
Junior guard
Ashlie Louden led the game with 19 points on 7-13 shooting, including 3-6 from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward
Alyssa Laukus had 15 points, also on 7-13 shooting, with six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. Sophomore guard
Hannah Chenault went 5-10 from the field to net 14 points. Junior guard
Zelimar Rodriguez scored nine points and added a team-high seven rebounds. Junior guard
Aurielle Brunner racked up six steals and five assists to go along with her four points.
The first half was a one-possession contest almost throughout as neither team could pull ahead. The Cougars had a 9-0 run midway through the second quarter, but it was immediately matched by the Bearcats, who scored nine straight in response. The Cougars went into halftime with a narrow two-point lead. Laukus scored seven of her 15 points in the third quarter to spark the Chatham offense and take the lead. The Cougars went into the final frame with a nine-point advantage, and would parlay a 13-5 fourth-quarter run into a victory.
Both teams struggled from deep, with the Cougars at 28.6% (6-21) and the Bearcats at 17.6% (3-17). The Bearcats won the rebound battle 49-30, but committed 21 turnovers to the Cougars' four.
Women's Basketball will host Grove City on Saturday at the AFC.
