BUFFALO, N.Y. - Jan. 23, 2024 - The Cougars were defeated by the Buffalo State Bengals (8-11-0) in a non-conference meeting. A six-goal first period put the game out of reach early for Chatham, whose record is now 5-12-0 overall.
In the first, the shots on goal favored the Bengals 15-10, as they earned a 2-0 lead in under seven minutes. At the 6:54 mark, freshman Andrew Martino netted the Cougar's first score off assists from sophomores Cristian Adragna and True Crowe. However, Chatham was penalized five times in the opening period, out of which Buffalo State scored on two-out-of-four power plays. Entering the second, the Bengals led 6-1.
The second period saw both teams trade scores. Adragna guided in a response to the Bengal's earlier score with assistance from seniors Liam Murphy and Aidan Girduckis. That goal would be Chatham's last, though, as Buffalo State extended its 7-2 lead with four more points coming in the third.
On the evening, the shots on goal were even at 35, but Chatham was 0-6 on power plays. Adragna was the points leader for the Cougars with a goal and an assist.
Men's Hockey will travel an hour south of Buffalo for their next game against Fredonia on Friday at 7 p.m.
