PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Jan. 20, 2024 - A late goal with 3:06 left in the final period pushed the Mustangs past the Cougars for their 11th loss of the year. Chatham is now 4-10 in conference play.
The first two periods were scoreless as the Cougars had two power plays in the first but could not find the back of the net. Entering the third, the shot count favored Stevenson 29-18.
At the 6:09 mark of the final period, Chatham earned another power play but did not convert. The Mustangs placed 21 shots on goal compared to the Cougars 13, leading to their first goal of the closing period with 3:06 remaining. Then, Stevenson netted an empty net goal to officially put the game out of reach.
The Cougars had a strong defensive effort, blocking 17 shots. In goal, freshman Louis Finnegan set a career-high in saves with 48.
The Cougars are now 5-11-0 overall. They will travel to Buffalo State on Jan. 23 for a non-conference matchup with the Bengals.
