BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - January 17, 2024 - Chatham Women's Basketball (15-2, 11-1) defeated the Geneva Golden Tornadoes (7-10, 6-6) for the second time this season with a 94-76 win at the Metheny Fieldhouse on Wednesday. The Cougars shot a season-best 48.1% (13-27) from beyond the arc on their way to their 12th double-digit win of the season.
Junior guard
Charjae Brock led the game in scoring with a career-high 22 points on 8-13 shooting, including 2-2 from three-point range. She added another career high with eight assists, which also led the game. Junior guard
Ashlie Louden knocked down four threes on her way to 18 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Reigning PAC Player of the Week
Alyssa Laukus netted 16 points on 7-12 shooting and contributed five rebounds. Graduate guard
Kaitlyn Fertig scored a season-high 15 points, going 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from deep. Junior guard
Emily Durkee knocked down all three of her triples to total 13 points with four rebounds and a game-high four steals.
Laukus scored the Cougars' first seven points to kickstart a 14-5 run to open the game. A 7-1 run to close the opening quarter would give Chatham its first double-digit lead of the night at 21-11. Fertig and Laukus combined for 12 points in a span of 1:55 in the second quarter that increased the Cougar lead to 17, and six consecutive points from Brock in the final minute of the half helped Chatham go into the break leading by an even 20. The Golden Tornadoes made a comeback push in the third quarter with a 15-6 run, but were never able to pull within single digits. The Cougars would start the final frame with an 11-2 run to move out of reach.
The Cougars shot 48.6% (36-74) from the field with five players making five or more field goals. Chatham's 26 assists were their second most in a game this season, and the Cougars forced 30 Geneva turnovers.
Women's Basketball will return on Saturday when they visit W&J in a battle for the top spot in the conference.
