PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Jan. 13, 2024) - The Cougars lost their season series against Wilkes (8-6-1, 6-6-1). After taking a second-period lead, Chatham let up two goals to the visitors leading to the loss. The Cougars are now in sixth place in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference.
The first period was scoreless as both sides drew penalties and the shot count was even.
In the second, the Cougars earned the first lead of the day on a goal by senior Allie Corser-James with an assist from fifth-year Brooke Almond. The Colonels would respond two minutes later to even the score. Then, at the 16:38 mark, Wilkes notched another goal on a breakaway to take the lead heading into the final period.
The shot count favored the Cougars 7-6 in the third, but they were unable to capitalize. Wilkes held onto their 2-1 lead to close the season series.
In total, the shots on goal favored the Colonels 27-22. Sophomore Samantha Brophy made 25 saves on those 27 shots. As a team, Chatham recorded 22 blocks, their third-largest amount of the year. Junior Erin Carter led the way with five.
The Purple and Grey will travel to fifth-seeded Alvernia on Jan. 19.
