Women's Hockey Suffers Loss to Start New Year

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Jan. 12, 2024) - The Cougars started the New Year with a 4-1 loss to the visiting Wilkes Colonels (7-6-1, 5-6-1). This loss is Chatham's second of the season, bringing their overall record to 8-2-2.

The Colonels would strike first at the 13:46 mark of the first off a rebound. The visitors would carry this lead into the second period with the shot count favoring them 10-5.

The Cougars had 13 shots on goal and three power plays in the second but failed to convert. Midway through the period, Wilkes tallied two more scores within 40 seconds of each other to take a 3-0 lead.

Wilkes capitalized on a power play with under seven minutes left to play to extend their lead to 4-0. With under a minute left, freshman Morgan Black netted her first career goal, giving the Cougars their only goal of the afternoon.

The Cougars had five total power plays to score but only managed five shots during the six-and-a-half minutes of penalties.

Chatham prepares for a rematch on Saturday against Wilkes at 2 p.m.
