PITTSBURGH, Pa. - January 10, 2024 - Chatham Men's Basketball (9-6, 7-3) suffered its first conference loss in seven games, falling to the undefeated Saint Vincent Bearcats (15-0, 10-0) on Wednesday at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The Cougars led by three at the halftime break, but were outscored 50-30 in the second half.
Senior forward
Luca Robinson led the team with 18 points on 8-14 shooting and secured a double-double by adding 10 rebounds. Senior guard
Simon Boyer scored 16 points and pulled down four boards. Sophomore guard
Diaun Pinkett led the game with 11 rebounds and added six points. Graduate forward
Elijah Sutton came very close to a double-double, putting up eight points and nine rebounds.
After the Bearcats opened the game on an 8-2 run, the Cougars answered for eight straight to take an early lead on a Sutton three-pointer. Chatham led by as many as seven in the first half before going into the break up by three. The Cougars held their largest lead of the night at eight with 14:44 left in the second half, but it was all Bearcats from then on, with a 33-6 extended run proving to be too much for Chatham to handle.
The Cougars shot 40.9% (27-66) from the field, but struggled from the three-point line (6-24) and the free-throw line (6-12). On the other end, the Bearcats were 20-25 from the stripe and 5-10 from deep. The rebounds were even at 39, while Chatham's two steals were a season low.
Men's Basketball is back in the AFC on Saturday to host the Grove City Wolverines.
