GROVE CITY, Pa. (Sept. 5, 2023) - The Grove City Wolverines topped the Cougars in four sets (26-24, 27-25, 24-26, 25-20) to hand the Cougars their first loss of the season. After an early 3-0 start to the season, Chatham Women's Volleyball struggled behind the line, giving up 13 service errors.
Mistakes plagued the Cougars all night long. The final tally of total errors came out to 54 for Chatham and 42 for Grove City. On a night when the women kept the total point count close, errors made the difference for their opponent.
Senior
Jessica Taney led the match in kills, finishing with 14. Five more Cougars registered at least six kills, with senior
Jena Williams contributing 12. Chatham connected on more of their total attacks (.18) compared to Grove City (.17), but 25 attacking errors proved to be the difference in this match.
Freshman
Ava Plunkard led all players with 27 assists. Senior
Jessie Spoerndle handed out 20 assists of her own, while senior
Meghan Dominek and junior
Natalie Keough tallied six and one respectively.
On the defensive side, Dominek recorded a match-high 24 digs. Sophomore
Sierra Ricci (15 digs) and
Jena Williams (12 digs) aided in the Cougars' defensive efforts. Freshman
Zoie Bateman got up for four block assists, while five of her teammates recorded at least one.
Women's Volleyball (3-1) will look to bounce back in their home opener against Carnegie Mellon on Sept. 6.
