PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2023) - Freshman Ava Plunkard set up fellow first-year Zoie Bateman for the final kill of The Cougars' 3-0 sweep of La Roche (8-3, 0-0). Chatham ended The Redhawks' eight-game winning streak in their second and final matchup versus one another. The Cougars used accurate hitting and stonewall defense to shut out their opponent.
Leading the charge offensively was sophomore Alyssa Leskovac with a season-high 11 kills followed by Zoie Bateman with a career-high nine. Seniors Amelia Bogovich, Jessica Taney, Delaney O'Shea, and Jena Williams all contributed four or more kills individually. Ava Plunkard recorded 25 of Chatham's 44 assists, while senior Jessie Spoerndle set up 13 kills. Overall, The Cougars' hitting percentage was .291 with multiple players hitting over .360.
On defense, senior Meghan Dominek and Leskovac combined for 28 digs. Plunkard defended nine attacks, and sophomore Sierra Ricci and Spoerndle dug up 13 in total. As a team, The Purple and Gray blocked four attacks. Taney and Bateman both recorded a solo block in the match. Overall, Chatham held La Roche to their lowest point total (23) and hitting percentage (.000) on the year.
The Cougars are back home on Sept. 23 to take on The Westminster Titans (7-5, 0-3 away).
