PITTSBURGH, Pa. - September 20, 2023 - Chatham Men's Soccer lost in the opening conference game of the season 4-2 against Grove City (1-2-4) at home on Wednesday. The Cougars are now 1-6-1 on the year.
Chatham took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when freshman forward
Azavier Coppin slotted a shot into the bottom left corner of the net on a breakaway. Grove City wouldn't waste any time responding as they tied the match back up at 1 just 15 seconds later on a Chatham own goal. The Wolverines then took the lead in the 36th minute and took the 2-1 lead into halftime. That lead was increased to 3-1 by Grove City in the 55th minute, but Coppin scored his second goal of the match to make it 3-2. Â The Wolverines would tack on one more before the end of the match.
Coppin now has seven goals on the season, increasing his PAC-leading total. Freshman
Maxwell Cottrill made 15 saves in net for the Cougars.
Men's Soccer will return to the pitch Saturday night with a road match against Waynesburg.
