Baseball's Comeback Falls Short on Senior Night

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - May 4, 2023 - Chatham Baseball lost on Senior Night 9-7 to the Hiram Terriers after erasing a 7-0 deficit. The Cougars fall to 18-17 on the season.

Hiram got on the board first with three runs in the top of the fourth and four more in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead. The Cougars answered for four runs in the bottom half of the fifth. First-year outfielder Peter Tadic homered to dead center to drive in three runs, then junior outfielder Dylan Vogel stole home on a double steal.

Then, in the sixth, the Cougars picked up another run when Vogel earned an RBI by bunting home sophomore first baseman Quinn Burke. Chatham tied the game in the eighth when graduate catcher Caleb Lehman hit an infield single that drove in two runs on a Hiram throwing error. In the top of the ninth, the Terriers plated two runs on two sac flies to retake the lead.

Peter Tadic had three RBI on his home run. Juniors Jake Bredl and Frankie DeLuca each went 2-5 at the plate.

Senior pitcher JJ Shibest started on the mound for Chatham and retired all four batters he faced.

Baseball will wrap up its season Saturday with a road doubleheader against Grove City.
