PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 8, 2023 - Chatham Baseball was swept at home in its doubleheader against the Washington and Jefferson Presidents on Saturday by scores of 7-0 and 10-3. The Cougars fall to 11-11 on the year and 4-4 in the PAC.
The Presidents got on the board early in the first game with a run in the top of the first. They threatened to do damage in the top of the third, but Chatham starter
Drew Schreck was able to work out of a bases loaded jam without surrendering a run. W&J added two runs in the fifth, seventh and ninth innings on their way to a 7-0 win.
Junior infielder
Jake Bredl went 2-4 at the plate in the game. Graduate catcher
Caleb Lehman went 1-2 and drew two walks.
In the second game, the Presidents picked up where they left off offensively, with a three spot in the top of the first and two more in the third.
The Cougars tallied their first run of the day in the bottom of the third when junior outfielder
Frankie DeLuca doubled to score sophomore catcher
Tyler Cote, which cut the lead to 5-1.
The Presidents scored another run in the top of the sixth, and the Cougars answered in the bottom half of the inning as Bredl brought in junior infielder
Benny Dottle with a single.
Sophomore first baseman
Quinn Burke doubled in the eighth inning to drive in Bredl.
Bredl and DeLuca each went 2-4 with an RBI in game two.
Baseball will return to the field Tuesday afternoon with a road contest against Saint Vincent.
