PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 6, 2023 - Chatham Baseball earned a 10-6 victory over the Geneva Golden Tornadoes at West Field Thursday evening. The Cougars are now 11-9 on the season, including 5-0 at home, and 4-2 in PAC play.
The Golden Tornadoes put the pressure on early, loading the bases in the top of the first and coming away with a run, but the Cougars answered for four in the bottom half of the inning when graduate catcher
Caleb Lehman cleared the bases with a double and a little help from a Geneva error. Lehman then scored on an error later in the inning.
The Golden Tornadoes tied things up in the second with two runs, but the Cougars again responded to take the lead. This time it was graduate outfielder
Nico Cuello who drove in a pair of runs with a double. Chatham would score two more in the next frame to take an 8-4 lead. Junior outfielder
Frankie DeLuca singled and brought in sophomore first baseman
Quinn Burke, followed by another RBI base hit from Cuello that scored first year infielder
Jason Boller.
Geneva cut the lead to 8-6 in the sixth inning before junior infielder
Jake Bredl notched a single that scored Cuello and junior infielder
Benny Dottle to return the lead to four.
Cuello was 3-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Bredl's two RBI brought his season total to 23, which leads the team and is third in the PAC. Dottle was 2-2 at the plate and scored three runs.
Graduate pitcher
Eric Paulin threw 6.2 innings of relief and earned the win. He struck out three and allowed just one earned run.
