Men’s Lacrosse Earns Second Straight Conference Win at Bethany

BETHANY, W.V. - April 5, 2023 - Chatham Men's Lacrosse traveled to West Virginia this afternoon for their PAC matchup with Bethany. Despite a low-scoring start, the Cougars would ramp up the offense to bring home a 12-5 win.

Sophomore Paul Freyre would score the only goal of the first quarter, and would not be joined on the scoresheet until the second quarter by first-year Trent Griffin and junior Riley Lewis. Griffin would complete his hat trick after a Bethany goal before Freyre scored his second of the night to start the second half.

First-year Alex Stanuikynas would score with less than two minutes remaining in the third, and two more Cougars would join him before the clock ran out. Lewis recorded his second goal of the game, and senior Clark Styles would score his first career goal.

Sophomore Ethan Rinker would score the Cougars' final three goals in the fourth quarter.

Griffin, Stauikynas, Freyre, and sophomores Thomas Curtin and Liam Behnke each recorded a team-high three ground balls. Curtin and Behnke would account for a team-high three caused turnovers each as well.

On face-offs, Styles won six of 13. First-year Cody Randal went 2-7, and Dylan Wanichko went 1-1.

First-year goalkeeper Brett Zaruba made 11 saves in the win, and sophomore Zen Smith added three.

The Cougars improve to 2-0 in the PAC and 5-6 overall. Their next matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12th, at 4 PM when they host W&J at UPMC Graham Field.
