Haak Reaches 100 Hits in Doubleheader Loss to Westminster

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 26, 2023 - Cougar Softball hosted Westminster tonight in a conference doubleheader. Westminster would take home two wins by scores of 16-7 and 10-5.

In game one, Westminster's productive third inning would set the Cougars back. Sophomore Isabelle Griswold would be the first Cougar to cross the plate in the fourth thanks to a solo homer.

The Cougars would have a five-run fifth inning to put the game at 8-6, but the Titans would pull ahead again for the final time in the sixth.

At the plate, senior Lauren Haak brought in her 98th and 99th career hits. Classmates Mackenzie Dunn and Justine Boyle as well as first-year Kayleen Garcia and Griswold would also register two hits, while senior Kaitlyn Collins and graduate student Kyley Fijalkowski each had one.

Griswold led the team with two RBIs in game one, while Dunn, Boyle, first-year Victoria Murren, and junior Savanna Ahlborn each brought in one run.

Dunn knocked a triple, and Collins, Boyle, and Griswold each contributed doubles.

In the circle in game one was Murren, who struck out three batters in six innings pitched. Classmate Cailyn Lucas entered in relief for the seventh inning.

Game two's Cougar offense began with an RBI triple from Ahlborn in the fourth. The Cougars' next run was a result of Kyley Fijalkowski's sacrifice fly, and in the seventh, Boyle would contribute a two-run double before Griswold knocked Boyle in with an outfield single.

Griswold led with two hits. Haak got her final hit needed to reach 100 in the seventh with a centerfield single. Also finishing game two with one hit were Dunn and graduate student Paige Shaftic.

First-year Chelsea Stabile suffered the loss in the circle with her 4.1 innings pitched. Mackenzie Dunn would swap positions in the battery for the final 2.2 innings.

The Cougars will round out their season tomorrow, April 27th, at Thiel College starting at 3:30 PM.
