PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 25, 2023 - Chatham Baseball swept the Franciscan Barons at home Tuesday afternoon, with two mercy-rule wins of 10-0 and 13-3. The Cougars are now 16-15 on the year and an even 8-8 in PAC play.
In game one, Chatham got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning when junior infielder
Jake Bredl singled to score junior infielder
Benny Dottle. Then, sophomore catcher
Tyler Cote doubled to drive in Bredl and graduate outfielder
Nico Cuello, which gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Dottle singled for his 47th hit of the season, which set a new Chatham single-season hit record. The previous record of 46 was set by graduate catcher
Caleb Lehman in 2021.
The Cougars increased their lead to 5-0 in the fifth when Cote scored on a fielder's choice and Cuello drew a bases-loaded walk.
In the sixth, Chatham scored five more runs with five hits and help from multiple Baron errors.
Cote went 3-3 in game one with two RBI and two runs scored. Dottle was 3-5 with an RBI and two runs of his own.
On the mound, sophomore right hander
Dawson Morrow had a gem of a game, with 6.0 scoreless innings pitched. He allowed just four hits and struck out six Barons.

Kole Mayle shut things down and earned the save in the seventh, with the Cougars winning on the 10-run mercy rule.
In game two, Chatham plated two runs in the second to take an early lead. First year infielder
Jason Boller scored Lehman with a sac fly, then junior outfielder
Frankie DeLuca single to drive in Cote.
The lead became 3-0 Cougars when Bredl brought in Cuello with a sac fly in the third. The Barons scored their first runs of the day in the top of the fourth and tied the game at 3. Chatham retook the lead in the fourth as Dottle drove in Boller with a single.
The Cougars put up a three spot in the bottom of the fifth as Bredl scored on a wild pitch, Lehman reached home on a single from Burke and Cote scored on a base hit from freshman outfielder
Peter Tadic.
Chatham tacked on the final six runs in the seventh to storm ahead to the mercy rule win. The Cougars got an RBI triple from Boller, a single from Tadic that scored Boller, a two-run double from Cuello and a single from Bredl to end it.
Cuello and Boller each had two hits and two RBI in the night cap. Boller ended game two with two triples, which matched a Chatham single-game record, set last season by junior outfielder
Dylan Vogel.
Sophomore reliever
David McSorley got the win after throwing 3.1 innings of one-hit ball in relief.
Chatham returns to action tomorrow on the road with a non-conference game against Juniata.
